If you are new to APPCIOS, please note that we only accept fully qualified Psychodynamic Organisational Therapists onto this training. This is because we believe that an understanding of unconscious organisational dynamics and of their impact is essential to a full understanding of the internal world of the individual, and especially so for clinicians working on a once-weekly basis.
But please don't be put off by this: if you are an experienced therapist, counsellor or clinician, or if you have worked extensively in organisations in a therapeutic or social work capacity, you may find that you are nearer to achieving this first qualification than you think - it may take you as little as three months to a year.
If you have already qualified with us as an APPCIOS Psychodynamic Organisational Therapist, go straight to Section B.
If not, please read Section A first.
Section A: Joining APPCIOS and qualifying as a Psychodynamic Organisational Therapist.
Psychodynamic Organisational Therapy offers an understanding of how the internal worlds of the many individuals who staff an organisation, and the internal worlds of their clients, intersect and impact upon one another; and of the complexity of the consequent dynamics.
Psychodynamic Organisational Therapists focus on the overlap between the unconscious dynamics of organisations and of individuals. They apply psychoanalytic thinking in a way that differs from the practise of psychoanalytic clinicians trained to work only with individual patients within the consulting room, although they share the same theoretical base.
For qualification as a Psychodynamic Organisational Therapist, candidates must evidence:
- A cognitive and experiential understanding of psychodynamic principles as they apply to the internal world of the individual;
- A cognitive and experiential understanding of psychodynamic organisational dynamics;
- Personal experience of integrating and applying these bodies of knowledge for therapeutic purposes within organisational settings.
Our training in Psychodynamic Organisational Therapy is fully accredited by the BPC. It is a portfolio training and we have powers of APEL: this means that we are able to accept prior experiential learning. So if you have already undertaken a psychotherapy or counselling training, or a psychoanalytic child psychotherapy training, or if you have worked extensively with organisations in a therapeutic capacity, you may already have fulfilled many or even most of our requirements. You can take a look at the Training Handbook here.
If you would like to enquire further about this, send your CV to our Registrar, Tina Bool, along with the names and contact details for two referees, and Tina will set up a free meeting with one of our Admissions Mentors, who will discuss with you how near you are to qualification, and what further work you might need to undertake in order to achieve it.
Here's Tina's email address: tina.bool@appcios.info
Section B: The APPCIOS top-up training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
This training is fully accredited by the BPC, and graduates are eligible for inclusion in the BPC's register as Psychodynamic Psychotherapists.
This is a portfolio training, that can be undertaken at your own pace. It is taught on Zoom and will equip you to work in private practice both on Zoom and in person.
For qualification you will need to evidence that you have fulfilled the following requirements:
- An approved infant observation (at least one year)
- An approved organisational observation (at least one term)
- An approved webinar on the psychoanalytic understanding of race and ethnicity. (The APPCIOS webinar is held over four weeks)
- Psychoanalytic theory and infant development (at least two years)
- Psychoanalytic psychotherapy (at least once-weekly for at least three years duration)
- Two once-weekly adult training cases, one male, one female, for at least one year each, under approved fortnightly supervision.
You will also need to participate in a small weekly work discussion group for the duration of your training.
You will be paired with a mentor who will help you to plan the trajectory of your training.
Training fees are kept to a minimum, but because trainees will join with differing levels of experience, we cannot predict the exact cost.
