APPCIOS Group Relations Conference 2026

What is an APPCIOS Group Relations Conference?

APPCIOS is a Charity that focuses on the interaction between the unconscious dynamics of organisations and the unconscious internal world dynamics of the individuals within them.  We see a Group Relations Conference as a temporary organisations in which such interactions can be closely studied.

In the October conference we will explore the temporary community that we are creating together as a microcosm through which to achieve a better understanding of larger and more powerful organisations and of their impact.

We will be attending to our felt responses both as individuals and as members of a group in order to learn more about the unconscious dynamics of the group, and about the unconscious dynamics that develop between groups.

This in turn makes a space for more powerful learning about identity and role and how we may find (or give away) authority and power in more complex settings.

With what we learn through this process we hope to think and work together on how we can use our psychoanalytic understanding to bring about change for the better in the external organisations and systems to which we belong.

This is a rare opportunity to bring together a wide range of sophisticated psychoanalytic thinkers who may not usually engage together: those who work one-to-one in consulting rooms – with adults or children – and those who work with client groups who, for reasons of class, ethnicity or geography, wouldn’t normally get to be seen in a consulting room. This conference is for anyone involved in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic practice. It will be of particular interest to psychotherapists therapeutic community practitioners, psychodynamic counsellors and others who use a psychoanalytic or psychodynamic framework in their work with clients.
